Literature adds to reality, it does not simply describe it. It enriches the necessary competencies that daily life requires and provides; and in this respect, it irrigates the deserts that our lives have already become.

Literature might be a little bit boring to some students and with just few simple tips the teacher can make the learning more fun and memorable.

1. The lamp idea, I got from my ESL teacher. I thought it might be fun to buy a regular lap with that shade made from material or make a shade. On the shade, the students can write either words or phrases in different languages. Example, the students can write the word “Hello” or pretty much anything...in their own (or different languages).

2. Second idea, I saw being used in many classes before.
When the students read a story, they had to draw their favorite moment or scene from the story.
The teacher can take it to the next level by asking students to draw parts of the plot in the story, the main idea.
Teacher can always make different arrangements.

3. In one of my classes, my teacher asked all the students to bring (the CD, cassette of) their favorite song.
We also had to find the lyrics.
In class, together with the rest of the students we talked about our choices.
I find this 'homework' very involving and I got the chance to show my classmates what kind of person I was.

Any type of music is good. Just as an example I choose 'Staying alive' by Gee Bees.

The teacher can even use the search engine on any website to find the lyrics.
